Grace Patenaude is a Certified CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, CrossFit Barbell, USA Weightlifting Level 1 Performance Coach and CPR certified. She has been in the fitness industry since the mid 1980’s. Although her fitness background includes basketball, track & field, classical ballet, martial arts, body building and endurance sports, she has never felt as challenged as she was when she adopted the CrossFit methodology. Through CrossFit training, Grace has seen her clients achieve real results. Not only do they look fitter and stronger, but their increase in strength is evident in their daily lives. Grace’s philosophy is to train body movements so that an individual becomes efficient, effective and injury-free in what they do, whether it be work, supplemental conditioning to sports, getting back into shape or the spur of the moment demands of life, work and everyday activities.

Beth is an athlete through and through. If it has to do with sports, count her in! She spent her younger years competing in gymnastics and playing basketball. While attending Rice University, she decided to walk on to the track team and learn to pole vault. Fast forward 4 years and upon graduation she had earned a full scholarship, NCAA All-American honors, four conference titles, and two school records. Beth was able to travel and compete in the US and Europe for two years following graduation as a professional. After retiring from pole vaulting, Beth was looking for a way to stay in shape and the gym just wasn’t cutting it. She stumbled upon CrossFit and began doing WODs at the local “globo” gym and even getting kicked out for throwing things around! Shortly thereafter, Grace found Beth and they started meeting at different places to do WODs around the neighborhood. She’s been in love with CrosFit ever since!

Beth’s training philosophy is simple: Go Hard or Go Home. No matter how much weight you’re lifting or how fast you’re going; you can always work hard. If you don’t want to do it, then don’t; no one is making you do this. Her favorite thing to see is a bunch of people lying on the floor after a WOD!

Will has been doing all manners of exercises, mainly weightlifting, since the age of 14 due to his participation in American football. Following his graduation from SHSU in 2006, he began his career as a Strength and Conditioning Coach. This was short lived and after brief stints at various performance training centers, he landed as a middle school health and PE teacher in FBISD. Along the way he found a love for Olympic Weightlifting (the ONLY power lifting 😉 ). Under the tuteledge of Coach Tim Swords (USAW Team Houston and USAW’s current member of the Coaching, Education & Program Committee), he has gained experience as an Olympic Weightlifting Coach. During his time at Sam Houston and Ole Miss, Will gained an appreciation for the Scottish Highland Games, which he currently competes in. His philosophy on training is simple: Technique is key. Without it, the most efficient machine on the planet, the human body, can’t perform as it should.

Sid Nueno is a Certified CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and has prior experience in the fitness industry previous to coming to Atomic CrossFit. He played college basketball overseas and has worked as a Personal Trainer and Membership Advisor during his time in the fitness industry. Sid earned his NASM while working at a “globo” gym and has always been involved in sports and fitness since he left the healthclub industry.

“I found CrossFit in the fall of 2010 and had a love/hate relationship with the movement. I truly fell in love in the summer of 2011 when the physical battle with the WODs transformed to more of a mental battle. I realized that most of these workouts are more of commanding the mind to challenge the body. If I win the lottery I would do this full time along with coaching basketball.”

Sid has finally realized that you can’t out train a bad diet and has recently added nutrition discipline and balanced recovery to his active lifestyle giving him the tremendous gains in gas tank and strength he has been struggling to add.

Sid is a graduate of San Beda College (Philippines) with a Masters of Human Resources from the University of Houston Clearlake. He works full time as an HR Director for a local CPA firm and teaches Introduction to Human Resources at HCC and San Jacinto Community College

Born in Houston Texas, Adam grew up climbing the ranks of martial arts under the instruction of Wayne Nguyen. In August of 1996 Longoria received an adult black belt at the age of 15 with a unanimous vote of a highly decorated black belt panel. Later that year Adam would receive an opportunity to try out for a world class level sport karate team which he made. In that same year Adam would win his first world title in Brick Breaking. Over the next four years Adam would find himself traveling the world for sport karate competition earning 10 world titles, setting world records that still stand today, earning a spot in the National Black belt League Hall of Fame, making the cover of SMASH Magazine and featured in Sports illustrated. After a successful sport karate career he would move on to full contact combat sports such as MMA, Western Boxing and Muay Thai. After asking about what was going on he would find himself trying out CrossFit for the very first time. Instantly addicted he has been in pursuit of as much knowledge and experience within this modality of fitness as possible ever since. Since the age of 13 Adam has always been a gym rat.

  • CrossFit Level I
  • Registered Nurse

Competitions

  • Fittest 2013
  • BCS Classic 2013
  • Oktoberfest Obliteration Team 2013

Tammi started at Atomic like most new people, afraid to take that first step. Wondering if she could handle Crossfit, or if she needed to get in shape first. After her first class with Daniel there was no turning back. Atomic Crossfit quickly became more than just a place to work out, it became her extended family.

What Tammi loves the most about Crossfit is that everyone can do it. No matter your age, size, or previous athletic background. Everything can be modified to your personal fitness needs. Another great benefit is that you can be working out right next to some of the top athletes in the region as well as some master’s athletes in their 60’s. Both are inspiring!

Tammi graduated from The University of Texas Health Science Center School of Nursing and currently works at Texas Children’s Hospital in the Emergency Center.

After many years of yoga, spin classes, circuit training classes, some kettle bell training and some failed attempts to at least tolerate running, Amber stumbled upon CrossFit in the summer of 2011. She instantly loved the combination of physical and mental challenges presented by every workout. But her favorite part about CrossFit is that it is a community that literally everyone can join, no matter where their starting point might be.

Amber is mom to Atomic Young Guns Owen and Meredith and has spent her career in secondary education. She believes that some of the most important life lessons are learned in CrossFit – self confidence, determination, pride in hard work, and the value of making choices that put you on a road to a long, healthy, fit and happy life.

“I was one of those gym rats. As a matter of fact I used to take Grace Patenaude’s classes at a globo gym and she was one of my fitness inspiration but then one day she stopped teaching. Just like everybody else I got bored with my workout routine and felt like I wasn’t getting the result I wanted. Then one day a coworker of mine started talking about this “crossfit wod” she was doing and how crazy good it was. She showed me the website and guess what it was Grace! Signed up the next day! Crossfit was not near anything I’ve ever done. Crossfit gave me the challenge I needed. I fell in love with crossfit.  I loved the challenges, the community, and to this day after doing it for over 5 years I still have the same love for Crossfit and everything that comes with it! Crossfit has changed my life in so many ways. Crossfit to me is a never ending pursuit to get better, stronger, faster, fitter and healthier both mentally and physically. This pursuit is what I want to share with everyone.”
